Fleet Breakdown Maintenance Support
Fleet Breakdown Maintenance Support
Portland, Oregon
Our client is a fast-growing transportation and logistics provider that helps regional businesses move freight reliably. The Portland Business Journal regularly recognizes their team as a top local employer. We are hiring a full-time Fleet Breakdown Maintenance Support specialist to join their maintenance division at their Portland campus. This role includes a competitive hourly wage between $28 and $35 per hour, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan with a company match.
Your Impact and Mission
You keep the logistics network moving when unexpected issues occur on the road. When a driver encounters a mechanical problem, you are the calm voice and decisive problem-solver who manages the situation. You take incoming breakdown calls, diagnose vehicle symptoms over the phone, and direct drivers to the right repair facilities. By issuing purchase orders quickly and auditing vendor repair orders accurately, you reduce equipment downtime and protect company revenue. Your efficiency directly impacts driver satisfaction and delivery performance across the entire network.
The Environment and Tools
You work out of a clean, quiet, and enclosed administrative office that sits separate from the main shop floor on a three-building Portland campus. You share this dedicated space with one other teammate. You manage maintenance tracking for a large asset base that includes over 300 trucks and 900 trailers. To keep operations organized, you use a physical whiteboard system for daily workflow tracking alongside modern technology. Your tech stack includes Fleet Rock for repair orders, Samsara for real-time vehicle tracking, and you will help the team transition to mCloud.
What You Bring to the Team
-
Strong customer service, communication, and phone skills to support drivers during stressful roadside events.
-
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy when managing documentation, digital filing, and data entry.
-
Natural problem-solving abilities and the confidence to make quick, independent decisions regarding vehicle repairs.
-
Proficiency with administrative tasks, spreadsheet updates, and basic office software.
-
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a small office team.
-
Flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation, which provides an additional 8 hours of straight-time pay per two-week period. Overtime is also available at time-and-a-half.
Helpful but Optional Experience
-
Previous experience in logistics, transportation, or fleet maintenance operations.
-
Familiarity with fleet management systems like Fleet Rock, Samsara, or mCloud.
-
Basic knowledge of truck and trailer mechanics (though technical skills can be fully taught on the job if you have the right attitude and soft skills).
-
Experience coordinating with third-party maintenance vendors or leasing partners like Penske.
