Property Maintenance Technician

The Property Maintenance team represents The Surnow Company’s greatest strength: rapid, dependable customer service. Across our various retail and office properties concentrated in Metro Detroit, this valued member of the team ensures our properties are safe, efficient, enjoyable places for our tenants and their guests.

Position Description

Responsibilities

Daily tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Respond to service requests from office and retail occupants
  • Maintain vacant units
  • Upkeep of property and grounds
  • Respond to urgent property issues
  • Keep notes, records and time sheets as needed
  • Treat our tenants with patience and a can-do attitude at all times

Structure

Matching with the career preference of a qualified candidate, this job can be either full-time employment or

part time independent contractor.

FULL TIME EMPLOYEE

  • Between 40-50 hours per week
  • Competitive salary and full benefits package

INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR

  • Between 10-20 hours per week, can add hours and potential to expand into full-time role
  • Flexibility in which days you work, which allows you to work other jobs during the week
  • Hourly wage starts at $15.00/hour with greater potential up to $25.00/hour based on experience and certifications.

FOR BOTH FULL TIME AND PART TIME:

  • Located at our numerous properties in Birmingham, Lathrup Village, and elsewhere in Metro Detroit
  • We typically work weekdays 8am to 5pm
  • For staff safety, masks are welcome. Staff feeling sick must not come in. In addition, phone calls and
  • video meetings such as Zoom are used instead of in-person meetings where appropriate.

Your Background

Qualified candidates should be handy with basic building repairs and maintenance, as part of a team which includes staff or contractors with various skills. Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, self-starters who

can rapidly switch tasks and jump into action as needed. Prior experience in the following areas is a plus, but not required: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, drywall or painting.

Experience: maintenance technician: 2 years (Preferred)

  • Ability to text, email, work on a ladder, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation
  • Work authorization: United States (Required)
  • This job is ideal for someone who is:
  • Adaptable/flexible – our variety of buildings and tenants mean a new project is always coming up
  • Detail-oriented – if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right
