System Administrator
Overview:
The System Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting corporate servers, laptops, and networks. This role includes investigating, identifying, and resolving complex hardware and software issues, administering the Microsoft Azure environment (including Azure Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL, and Office 365), and leading disaster recovery and backup initiatives. The System Administrator ensures system security, availability, and compliance while providing guidance and mentorship to junior IT staff.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Azure Environment Management:
- Manage and oversee the organization’s Azure environment, including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Azure, SQL, and Office 365.
- Design and implement solutions for high availability and business continuity to minimize downtime.
- Optimize the Azure environment for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
System Installation and Maintenance:
- Install, configure, monitor, and maintain servers, computer systems, and networks.
- Perform upgrades, patches, and updates for operating systems and critical business applications.
- Plan and execute major installations or upgrades during off-hours or weekends to reduce operational disruptions.
- Maintain detailed system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and change logs.
Troubleshooting and Technical Support:
- Diagnose and resolve complex hardware/software issues and technical problems.
- Act as an escalation point for junior administrators and IT staff.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting for desktops, laptops, servers, and network systems.
Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Lead the management and improvement of corporate backup solutions, including replication, deduplication, and offsite storage.
- Develop and oversee disaster recovery strategies, conducting periodic testing to ensure recovery plans are effective.
Security and Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain IT security protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Test, review, and apply critical security updates to systems and applications.
- Monitor and respond to IT security incidents, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Conduct routine security audits and risk assessments.
User Support and Training:
- Provide advanced technical support and mentorship to IT staff.
- Develop and deliver training sessions for both IT staff and end users to enhance technical skills and awareness.
Miscellaneous:
- Stay informed on emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in the IT field.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to meet organizational objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent work experience may also be considered.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in system administration, with a strong focus on Azure and Office 365 environments.
- Proven experience managing and supporting cloud-hosted services such as SharePoint Online, Exchange Online, and Azure Active Directory.
- Demonstrated expertise in backup management and disaster recovery planning.
Skills:
- Proficiency in managing and maintaining complex IT systems and networks.
- Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with users and lead junior staff.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance standards.
