PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

DEFINITION
Mid-level professional capable of fulfilling the project accounting and cost reporting requirements of multiple mid-sized to large projects, including day-to-day interface with project management, client and contractor personnel.

WORK

  • Primary responsibility is the issuing of client requisitions in accordance with contract and inclusive of all billable company, trade subcontractors and material supplier’s costs.
  • Report to the Project Manager on the cost control of the General Conditions as well as overall project costs as they relate to budgeted amounts and their impact on project profitability.
  • Process payments to trades and subs on a timely manner and ensure that everyone complies with requisition due dates established by the schedule or contact documents. Also ensure that trades and subs are in compliance with requisition format and required submission of support documentation.
  • Apply client funds received by preparing accounts payable to trades, subs, accounts receivable reconciliation with the associated re-billing of client deductions and adjustments to billable cost.
  • Interface with corporate accounting staff in dealing with billing issues and profit recognition.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of set office practices, policies and procedures, systems and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of business math computations; and grammar, composition and spelling.
  • Considerable knowledge of computer information systems and software. Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and Timberline Cost Entry. Familiarity of Primavera Expedition 9.1 (or above) and CIS Image Routing Systems is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of accounting methods and principles.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information.
  • Ability to maintain highly complex records and to prepare reports from a variety of information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with managers, co-workers and the public is a must.
  • Ability to communicate effectively. Good oral and written communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, make educated and informed decisions and follow through on project to completion, often with deadline pressures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, with information gathered from a variety of sources. Proficient communication, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills.

EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Accounting, Business or related field.
  • One or more years of accounting experience in the construction or similar industry is preferred.
  • Must possess self-management skills and ability to work with limited supervision, basic computer skills and competency.
