Junior Systems Administrator

Overview:
The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for providing day-to-day support and administration of corporate servers, laptops, and networks. This role involves investigating, identifying, and resolving hardware and software issues, administering the Microsoft Azure environment, including Azure Active Directory, Exchange, SharePoint, SQL, and Office 365. Additionally, this position coordinates vendor hardware and software support, manages disaster recovery and backup schemes, and ensures the implementation of appropriate security updates.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Azure Environment Management:

    • Collaborate with the System Administrator to effectively manage this Azure environment, including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, Azure, SQL, and Microsoft/Office 365.
    • Implement high availability systems and business continuity solutions.
  • System Installation and Maintenance:

    • Install, monitor, and maintain company computer systems and networks.
    • Install new servers or perform upgrades as needed, including operating systems software and business unit application software for servers and workstations. Some tasks may need to be done during off-hours or weekends to minimize disruptions.
    • Monitor and manage system resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to maintain operating efficiency.
    • Maintain system documentation, testing, and create methods of procedures.
  • Troubleshooting and Technical Support:

    • Diagnose and resolve hardware/software faults and technical problems, either over the phone or in person.
    • Interface with computer users to promptly address issues, including password resets, virus mitigation, email support, and VPN connectivity.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to desktops, laptops, and the phone system.
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery:

    • Manage the corporate backup solution, including replication, deduplication, and offsite storage.
    • Oversee disaster recovery and backup schemes.
  • Security and Compliance:

    • Review and implement appropriate security updates from Microsoft and third-party vendors.
    • Maintain application security, conduct event investigations, and enforce compliance.
    • Provide monitoring, primary response, and intervention for IT-related security incidents and violations.
    • Stay current with new IT security protocols, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • User Support and Training:

    • Provide education and training to IT staff and end users.
    • Address user issues promptly, including password resets, virus mitigation, email support, and remote connectivity.
  • Miscellaneous:

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 1+ years of experience in technical support, help desk support, Office 365, and applications support.
    • 1+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Active Directory.
    • Experience administering Office 365 accounts and emails.
    • Experience supporting cloud-hosted SharePoint Online and Exchange Online.
  • Skills:
    • Strong ability to interface with computer users and promptly address their issues.
