AV Technician
Integrated Media Systems (IMS) is seeking an experienced Audio Video Technician to join our team, specializing in the custom installation of advanced A/V systems, commercial security systems, and electrical components. This is a hands-on role that requires adaptability, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable making field modifications and won’t shy away from challenges that come with custom installations. You will be responsible for installing and configuring bespoke systems for our high-end residential and commercial clients, with a focus on delivering excellence, no matter the complexity of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
Custom System Installation: Install and configure tailored A/V systems, including home theaters, multi-room audio, video distribution, lighting controls, and motorized shading systems. Additionally, install commercial security systems such as access control, video surveillance, and intrusion alarms, ensuring code-compliant integration across all systems. Electrical work will include wiring, cabling, and installation of power circuits for both residential and commercial applications.
Problem-Solving & Adaptability: Assess on-site conditions and make real-time adjustments or modifications to installation plans as necessary. You’ll need to think creatively and troubleshoot on the fly to ensure every project is executed to the highest standards, even when conditions deviate from the original design.
Project Phases: Lead all phases of the installation process, from pre-wire and trim to final commissioning. This includes integrating complex systems in both new construction and retrofit environments, where adaptability and customization are key.
Wiring, Cable Management & Termination: Manage the installation and termination of wiring for audio, video, networking, control, and fiber optic systems, as well as structured cabling for security and electrical systems. Strong attention to detail in cable management is essential to ensure clean, organized, and future-serviceable installations. You must take pride in making sure every wire and connection is neatly arranged and labeled for efficiency.
Blueprint Interpretation & Field Modifications: Interpret engineered blueprints and schematics with precision, while also being prepared to adapt or modify plans as unexpected site conditions arise. This role requires confidence in making these field adjustments to ensure the project’s success.
System Calibration & Programming: Program and calibrate control systems (e.g., Savant, Control4, Lutron, & Crestron) to ensure seamless integration across A/V sources, lighting, shading, security systems, and electrical controls.
Customer Interaction & Training: Provide hands-on training to clients, ensuring they fully understand how to operate their customized systems. You’ll also offer post-installation support and troubleshooting as needed to ensure client satisfaction.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, sales teams, and other trades to ensure the successful completion of installations, always thinking ahead to anticipate and solve potential challenges.
System Testing & Inspection: Thoroughly test all systems and components post-installation, making any necessary adjustments on-site to ensure top-quality performance and functionality.
Key Characteristics We’re Looking For:
Custom Installation Mindset: Candidates must thrive on working with unique, non-standard projects that require creativity, flexibility, and high-level problem-solving. Those looking for a predictable, cookie-cutter installation role will not find this a good fit.
Confidence in Field Modifications: You should not be intimidated by unexpected challenges. Comfort in making on-site modifications is critical to ensure the job is done correctly and efficiently.
Initiative & Ownership: We need individuals who take full ownership of their work, can work independently, and critically think through and overcome obstacles, ensuring flawless system installation and integration.
Preferred Experience:
Installations: Experience in custom A/V installations, including home theaters, multi-room audio, video distribution, control systems, and commercial security systems such as video surveillance, access control, and intrusion alarms. Experience with electrical work, including wiring, structured cabling, and electrical outlet installation, is also preferred.
Networking Skills: Strong understanding of networking equipment, wireless access points, and residential or commercial network setups.
