Job Description:
We are excited to welcome a dynamic and driven professional to our client’s expanding North America sales team. Based in their Aurora, IL office, with around 40% travel to customer sites, the Application Engineer will serve as the primary technical support contact for customers. This role involves building strong relationships with customers and collaborating closely with sales, product management, and R&D teams. Key responsibilities include analyzing field performance issues, conducting bench tests, demonstrating products, and providing technical sales support. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Main technical contact for customer technical support and issue resolution via phone, email, virtual meetings, and on-site customer locations
- Main technical contact for customer’s engineering team
- Work with customer engineering teams to define application requirements, including ‘what if’ scenarios
- Conduct failure analysis of customer returns, root cause, and corrective action
- Provide product and technical education to customers and prospects to assist in the design-in process
- Conduct product demonstrations at customer locations
- Technical resource for sales team during pre- and post-sales stages
- Process, evaluate, and provide written summaries for warranty returns
- Approximately 40% travel to customer locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, and other locations as needed
- Use and accurately maintain the company’s CRM system (Salesforce) for all customer and sales process data and site visit notes to ensure teamwork, collaboration, and transparency
- Provide an excellent customer experience, accurately managing customer communications and expectations within named accounts
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or other engineering discipline OR 2 – 4+ years of equivalent experience.
Qualifications:
- Entry level experience in installations, or applications, or maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial automation, factory automation or process automation systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical users
- Must be comfortable working directly with customers at their facilities in occasionally stressful situations
- Advanced problem-solving abilities to resolve complex issues
- Utilize input from others to explore and develop innovative solutions
- Recommend process and design enhancements to customers
- Share best practices and subject matter expertise to create effective solutions
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally
- Maintain excellent customer relationship skills, including listening, assertiveness, conflict resolution, and addressing customer concerns
- Be a self-starter with strong motivation and a desire for continuous learning and improvement
- Work effectively as part of a team to solve problems and create strategic plans through shared knowledge
- General knowledge of software applications and technologies within automation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet applications
- Ability and willingness to work alternative schedules including weekends and on-call hours as needed
- Must be based in the Aurora, IL office when not traveling
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Valid US driver’s license and passport
Preferred Experience:
- Foundational knowledge in AMR/AGV system architecture, DC battery systems, and CAN bus operations and debuggin
Annual Compensation Range:
$95,000-$105,000
