Safeguards Access Operations Specialist x4
Empowering AI Frontier Innovation. Safeguarding Progress.
Frontier AI models are unlocking extraordinary leaps including accelerating drug discovery and personalized medicine to hardening critical cyber defenses, running complex scientific simulations, and bringing high-performance AI to energy-efficient edge devices. Because these advanced capabilities might also present high-stakes risks if deployed without oversight, responsible access is essential to keeping innovation moving forward safely.
We are hiring Safeguards Operations Specialists within the Trust & Safety organization. In this role, you will evaluate high-impact organizations, enterprise clients, and research institutions applying for special access to cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs) to ensure applicants are who they say they are and their intended use cases align with safety policies.
At its core, this role combines Know Your Business (KYB) and Know Your Customer (KYC) due diligence with operational Trust & Safety principles. We welcome candidates bringing backgrounds in applicable B2B risk, compliance, fraud investigation, or operations who thrive in fast-paced tech environments.
What You Will Do
- KYB/KYC Verification & Evaluation: Conduct due diligence on enterprise and institutional applicants, verifying business identity, organizational backing, metadata, and stated technical use cases against evolving policy frameworks.
- Operational Gatekeeping & Workflow Support: Process access applications, document clear decision rationales, and maintain structured case records. While high-level policy leads and specialized teams handle ultimate policy edge cases, you are the primary evaluator assessing eligibility against established runbooks.
- Managing Diverse Review Volumes: Adapt to varying queue tempos depending on the program focus – ranging from high-volume, automation-supported cybersecurity queues to low-volume, highly nuanced deep dives (averaging around 10 to 20 detailed reviews per day for specialized bio/life sciences applications).
- Process Optimization & Data Tagging: Help build the foundation for automated decisioning. You will tag and label review data to help train rule engines and LLM classifiers, working to improve system precision and recall over time.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner frequently with Sales, Go-To-Market (GTM), Account Management, Customer Support, and Engineering teams to clarify policy boundaries, resolve application friction, and refine internal review tooling.
- Escalations & Referral Context: Identify potential misuse or compromised accounts during onboarding reviews, routing detailed contextual referrals to dedicated enforcement teams.
Technical Specialization Areas
Ideal candidates will bring background knowledge or technical literacy in one or more of the following four verticals:
- Cybersecurity
- Focus: Evaluating security operations, threat intelligence, dual-use tools, and red-teaming use cases aimed at hardening cyber defenses.
- Relevant Background: SecOps, threat research, vulnerability management, or cyber risk.
- Biosecurity & Life Sciences
- Focus: Auditing applications for drug discovery, synthetic biology, genomic research, or lab operations.
- Relevant Background: Biosafety compliance, IRB administration, bioinformatics, or lab research operations.
- Model Distillation & IP Protection
- Focus: Reviewing high-volume API requests for model compression and dataset creation to prevent unauthorized model cloning or safety guardrail stripping.
- Relevant Background: API usage auditing, technical IP/licensing compliance, MLOps, or anti-scraping enforcement.
- AI R&D & Alignment
- Focus: Gating access for academic and institutional research (e.g., mechanistic interpretability, safety evaluations, benchmark testing, and climate/scientific modeling).
- Relevant Background: Tech-policy operations, AI grant/lab administration, academic research, or technical compliance in emerging tech.
Qualifications
- B2B Due Diligence Mindset: Proven background in B2B KYB/KYC, enterprise compliance, fraud investigations, or operational risk within fast-paced environments is ideal. Candidates with domain expertise in one or more of our focus areas and strong transferable operational skills will also be strongly considered.
- Exceptional Judgment Under Ambiguity: Comfort quickly evaluating complex, non-standard enterprise applications against fluid policy guidelines that evolve alongside new AI capabilities.
- Strong Communicator: Confidence and diplomatic skill to clearly explain policy decisions to internal commercial teams (Sales, Account Managers) and resolve operational friction constructively.
- Adaptable & Detail-Oriented: Ability to thrive in fast-paced tech environments where processes are continuously refined, maintaining thorough case records and data tagging.
- Passion for Responsible Innovation: Genuine interest in AI safety, ethical technology deployment, and ensuring advanced models are safely routed to beneficial research.
Where You May Have Built This Experience
We welcome candidates bringing B2B risk, compliance, and operational judgment from a variety of environments, including:
- B2B Trust & Safety & Risk Teams: Tech platforms, risk consultancies, or AI labs handling enterprise compliance, onboarding, or access controls.
- AI & Data Vendors: Data-brokering or annotation firms (managing dataset policy and quality) or B2B SaaS integrators building directly with LLM APIs.
- Specialized Industry Operations: Program managers, research administrators, or compliance coordinators in Biotech/Pharma, Cybersecurity firms, Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), or University Research Offices.
Role Details & Compensation
- Pay Rate: $70.00 – $120.00 / hour (Commensurate with experience and specialized domain expertise)
- Engagement Type: Long-Term Contract with possibility for extension
- Location / Work Type: Primarily remote (San Francisco and New York preferred)
