Javascript Application Developer

BrightSign, the global market leader in digital signage media players, is seeking an experienced JavaScript Application Developer to join our rapidly growing global team in Cambridge.  BrightSign is the global leader in digital media players, headquartered in Los Gatos, CA. Our media players are used worldwide, by many different vertical markets. They are very flexible devices, providing the ability to play back audio and video media in many different formats, to render HTML, and to run applications in Javascript, Java and BrightScript. They are highly reliable; our customers depend on them to stay up 24x7. They can connect to any server to obtain data and media, interface to other hardware and devices in a variety of ways, and can be synchronized together to create video walls of almost unlimited size. 

Based in our Cambridge office but part of an international team, you will have a key role in building cross-platform applications in JavaScript and TypeScript to support BrightSign’s range of digital signage media players.  This role will primarily be focused on the development of our flagship product BrightAuthor:connected but you can expect some exposure to other areas of front-end and middleware development.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain BrightSign’s application software for use on desktop (PC/Mac/Linux), in-browser and on mobile
  • Solve challenges across a wide range of customer-focused requirements
  • Build intuitive user interfaces incorporating modern visual design elements
  • Integrate with both internal and external API components
  • Collaborate with a range of stakeholders in an agile environment

Requirements

  • Experience of JavaScript (and preferably TypeScript) frontend development in a commercial environment
  • Knowledge of Electron, React and Redux
  • Understanding of REST API concepts and cloud-based backends
  • Familiarity with HTML5 and CSS
  • Experience of Git/Gerrit source control
  • Demonstrated ability to write good-quality, robust and testable code
  • BA/BSc in a relevant discipline, and/or 5+ years of industry experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Interest in new technology areas and ongoing professional development
