Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Embedded Software Engineer with hands-on experience in electrical engineering. This role will be instrumental in the development of a next-gen IoT product. You will be responsible for leading the design and development of new features, making technical decisions, and ensuring the product meets our high standards for performance and reliability. This is a greenfield project, offering the opportunity to shape the future of our technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of a next-generation IoT product.
  • Make technical decisions on next-gen product development, focusing on innovation and efficiency.
  • Improve existing features and fix bugs in current products.
  • Develop and implement embedded software using Embedded C with FreeRTOS on STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Design, validate, and troubleshoot analog circuitry and microcontroller interfaces.
  • Work with cellular IoT technologies to enhance product connectivity.
  • Conduct hands-on testing, including writing firmware, loading it onto boards, and conducting rigorous testing.
  • Use home electronic test equipment for design validation and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to scale products to production, ensuring they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Occasionally visit the manufacturing facility in the Chicago suburbs to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Develop programs in Python to augment hardware functionality, running on laptops rather than the devices themselves.
  • Ensure designs are optimized for very low power consumption, targeting battery life of up to 5 years.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in embedded software development, specifically with Embedded C and FreeRTOS.
  • Strong knowledge of STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Experience with analog circuit design and microcontroller interfaces.
  • Familiarity with cellular IoT technologies.
  • Proficient in using electronic test equipment for design validation.
  • Ability to develop Python programs to support hardware functionality.
  • Experience in designing and testing battery-powered devices with very low power consumption.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and take the lead on projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to occasionally visit the manufacturing facility in the Chicago suburbs.
  • Hands-on experience with home lab electronic test equipment.
  • Experience in scaling products from design to manufacturing.
