The Role
The Director of Geospatial Solutions plays a pivotal role in leading and expanding the GIS Department. This position requires advanced expertise in geospatial information systems, alongside outstanding leadership abilities and strategic business insights. The mission of this role is to enhance the operational and strategic effectiveness of the GIS Department, contributing to sustained growth, profitability, and success. The Director leverages innovative technology and resources to advance business development and professional services within the GIS sector.

Essential Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic business plan for the GIS Department.
- Establish and oversee metrics, standards, and guidelines to evaluate departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
- Review, analyze, and optimize department business procedures to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Implement policies and procedures to enhance daily operational efficiencies.
- Prepare, manage, and track the departmental budget proactively.
- Provide statistical summaries on operational and financial performance for the COO.
- Meet or exceed revenue growth and profit targets set in collaboration with the COO.
- Set and manage departmental expense budgets, ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines.
- Define billable utilization targets and labor rates for the GIS Department.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of client contracts and long-term projects to ensure high performance and adherence to client terms.
- Utilize CRM software for project management, time tracking, and utilization reporting.
- Lead a team of Geospatial Solutions Architects, Analysts, Technicians, and specialists, offering expertise and mentorship.
- Review proposals, bids, contracts, and service agreements to ensure GIS Department profitability.
- Maintain expertise in geospatial technology solutions, particularly the ArcGIS product stack (Enterprise, Desktop, Online, and extensions), understanding its role in the organization’s broader technology architecture.
- Facilitate communication between technical teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Hold regular departmental meetings.
- Design, implement, and manage client geospatial solutions.
- Promote innovation in geospatial and data analytics.
- Educate and advise clients on the latest geospatial technologies and solutions.
- Stay current with emerging geospatial technologies, products, and industry trends through publications and online resources.

- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the COO.
Competencies
- Expertise in designing and implementing geospatial solutions across diverse applications.
- Broad knowledge of GIS concepts, with practical application experience.
- Familiarity with data and application development and deployment methodologies.
- Proven experience in managing and administering enterprise GIS environments.
- Proficiency with ESRI technology.
- Understanding of general technology stacks and GIS integration.
- Knowledge of budgeting, accounting practices, and project management.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Leadership and people management skills, with effective coaching, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Self-motivated and proactive.
- Commitment to inclusive practices, treating all individuals with respect and equity.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Information Systems, Computer Science, Government/Political Science, or related fields.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a leadership role, demonstrating strong management skills.
- Telecom experience is a plus.
- Preferred: Professional certifications (e.g., ESRI technical certification, GISP, or PMP).

Travel Requirements
Primarily local travel during business hours, as needed.
