CFO
A growing and financially stable $15M non-profit needs a leader to replace the retiring incumbent. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer will join our team of committed nonprofit professionals and keep our finances positioned for continued success. The CFO will have a day-to-day, ongoing impact on organizational operations, helping us to analyze, strategize, and grow our financial position. This seasoned strategist not only will understand current accounting practices and trends, but also will have experience in the responsible stewardship of nonprofit resources. As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will be comfortable in a leadership role that requires clear and effective communication skills.
The CFO is responsible for managing the overall accounting operations process, financial reporting, department/program budgets, ad hoc reporting, accounting close process, revenue and fixed asset analyses and payroll analysis. The position supervises the Controller and Director of Information Technology.
This role is onsite (with some flexibility) out of our Printers Row office just south of downtown Chicago.
Essential Functions:.

Provide oversight of the cash management and the investments process to drive the company’s treasury strategy

Report on financial results and issues to the CEO and Board of Directors

Work with senior leadership team to efficiently develop budget proposals, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting

Provide oversight of the day-to-day accounting, accounting control systems and internal audits to ensure the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports.

Provide oversight of the Billing, Accounts Receivable and Accounts payables functions/staffs and the integration of billing information from the Electronic Health Record system into the accounting system.

Manage the negotiation and execution of agency contracts with funding sources, vendors and collaborative service providers.

Provide oversight of the agency’s liability insurance program, including ongoing risk analysis

Serve as the agency’s primary liaison with its independent Auditor to ensure the annual audit is completed smoothly and in a timely manner

.Review efficiency/effectiveness of employee benefit programs, seeking approaches to lower costs where possible and consistent with required quality levels.

Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled organization that has strong fiscal management

Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.

Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement

Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives

Monitor organization performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for donors, the appropriate federal and state agencies, management team, and rest of company

Manage finance personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (ex: Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, state attorneys general)

Experience & Skills we value:*

Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, or other applicable field and 10 or more years applicable work experience which built financial competencies and subject matter expertise

Demonstrated success in a financial executive leadership role likely with 5 or more years of experience
-
Strong financial analysis with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the leadership team, the board, vendors, and staff.

Subject matter expertise including financial reporting, internal controls, and audits with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and OMB Guidelines, ideally including Circulars A-133 and A-122 and Form 990 Tax filings (non-profits)

Excellent leadership skills including the ability to coach and develop staff, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity

Strong financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting with the ability to collaborate and effectively communicate financial information with the leadership team, board, vendors, and staff

Experienced with Accounting Software Applications (Intacct, Great Plains, Financial Edge, etc.)

Nice to have and/or you’ll learn:

Experience and knowledge of real estate financing & accounting, in particular, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) credits and HUD tax credits

Masters degree in accounting, finance, or business administration

CPA designation is strongly preferred

Knowledge of Electronic Healthcare Record systems and ideally medicare reimbursement

Previous experience heading the IT function of an organization

Knowledge of federal and corporate grant applications and reporting
