TITLE:   Accountant   DEPARTMENT:  Investment Reporting   FLSA:   Exempt    REPORTS TO:  Manager – Investment Reporting       Job Summary   This position is responsible for supporting the Investment Reporting - Portfolio Company team.  The team is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reporting the financial and operating results of portfolio companies and stand-alone investments, including the preparation of the following:  consolidated GAAP financial statements, cash flow forecasts, lender reporting and draw packages, monthly reporting package to senior management, supporting schedules to general ledger accounts, variance analysis for income statement accounts, and annual audited financial statements.     Essential Job Functions   ? Prepare consolidated GAAP financial statements. ? Prepare consolidating and inter-company elimination entries. ? Perform monthly account analysis and roll-forwards of selected general ledger accounts to ensure accounts properly reflect the Company’s financial position in accordance with company policy and GAAP. ? Prepare monthly variance analysis to ensure that revenues and expenses are correctly reported and classified in accordance with GAAP and company policy.  ? Review property-level financial results prepared by a third-party accounting firm to ensure results properly reflect the company’s financial position and are in accordance with GAAP. ? Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial package sent to senior management, which summarizes key financial and operating highlights and compares actual vs. budget and forecast results. ? Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts for portfolio companies and stand-alone investments. ? Prepare monthly and quarterly financial packages sent to lenders. ? Prepare lender draw packages and create required support packages and analysis. ? Prepare debt covenant calculations. ? Review escalation prepayment calculations, year-end escalation settlement accruals, and escalation settlement billings prepared by third-party accounting firm. ? Review accounts receivable aging reports, follow up on past due accounts, and determine appropriate reserves. ? Prepare bank reconciliations. ? Assists in the preparation of the annual audited financial statements, including footnote disclosures and supporting schedules.  ? Responds to audit inquiries from accounting firms.  Prepare supporting schedules for annual audit. ? Prepares property disposition journal entries. ? Prepares journal entries, as needed. ? GAAP Research – Define and establish proper GAAP reporting as appropriate for new and existing business activities.  Determine accounting treatment for complex transactions including acquisitions and dispositions of properties. ? Assist in preparation of annual budget. ? Responds to audit inquiries from accounting firms. ? Responds to questions and requests from management.  Supplies ad hoc analysis to management. ? Perform other duties / special projects as assigned.     Qualifications   Bachelor’s degree in accounting and one to three years of general accounting experience required.  Real estate knowledge is preferred. CPA certification is preferred. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Strong computer skills required including the working knowledge of general ledger accounting systems, Microsoft Word and Excel. Previous use of MRI and JD Edwards a plus.  Other key attributes include being detail oriented, having strong communication skills and the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
